The name of the village refers to a place where, in the past, many small monasteries were located for monks to cloister themselves and meditate. According to archeological researchers,this place was the site of ancient Melivoia near Polydendrii Skiti. Towards the Northwest of the village, ruins of a castle were found, which are probably identified with the Byzantine “Centauropolis”.<\/p>\n

Skiti is built on the slopes of the mountain Mavrovouni, at an altitude of 350 m. and a small distance of 48 km from Larissa city, the capital of Thessaly region. Its permanent population is four hundred people which pictures a small agricultural community. The main income of the inhabitants is the cultivation of chestnuts, the most famous product for which the area is known, as well as delicious fruits like apples and pears, and of course olives. Other income activities for the small community are animal husbandry, fishing, and tourism<\/p>\n

Close to the village, at a distance of 3 km, Close to the village, at a distance of 3 km, there is the “Bourbulithra” water spring, in a beautiful natural environment with diverse vegetation with plane trees. Above this area lay the ruins of the walls of ancient \u201cMelivoia\u201d, which is mentioned by Homer. The forest of the Mavrovouni mountain is inhabited by many species of animals and trees and has been included in the European Network NATURA 2000. Other points with a wide view are the “Castle” at a distance of 2 km from the village and the location “Simaia” with a panoramic view.
 In the area, there is also one of the monasteries from locally known asthe “mountains of the Cells”, Saint Anargyri, with its two hermitages. Furthermore, It is worth visiting Panagia Polydendriou, located inside the oak forest, with the huge oak tree lying near the church. Also close to the village, there is an artificial lake, surrounded by hills with chestnut forests and walnut trees.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
