There is also evidence that confirms that, coming from the two hermitages of Saint Anargyri, one of the monasteries called “mountains of the Cells” located 1 km away in the northwest of Skete. These hermitages have been pictured in Byzantine paintings between the 12th and 16th centuries. Furthermore, near Skiti is believed that ancient Meliboia is located, the homeland of Philoctetes, which was famous for producing the red dye “purpura Meliboiae”. and played an important role as a stronghold for the coastal populations during the first barbarian raids (3rd – 4th century AD) and later the Slavs and Saracens (6th century AD).
